Excellent cleaning, very quiet

Bought this unit for the window so my grandsons can watch it! However the features are super. Third rack is excellent and very usable. Bottle washers are great! Super quiet operation. Pro wash features are about all we use. Top rack only is also a goo$ option to have for the one and a little more load that happens once in awhile. Fit and finish throughout the unit is excellent. The only feature I would like to see is a switch to turn on the light while it washes!

Cleans well, beautiful, love window & well built

I installed it about a week ago, replacing a 60 year old Kitchen Aid by Hobart dishwasher that still worked well, but was so ugly. I absolutely love the window. I know it's somewhat of a gimmick, but it makes me happy. I only wish there was a light show that you could toggle on during the process. Half the fun of taking your car through a carwash is the light show! Really cleans well, does not seem to leave a residue on the dishes, and seems to filter the food particles well so they don't re-deposit. Amazingly quiet! Purchased mine through Costco, and received the updated ESS2 model, which does light up the interior for 10 minutes once the cycle is through. I'd still like much more of a light show though :)

Worst dishwasher leaves soap on the dishes

From the day one I purchased this dishwasher I am having problems with the dish with the soap left on the dishes as well as on the soap tray. I thought I am buying the best but bought the worst and expensive. I have changed several different soaps and we have the water softener too. I am Very disappointed with the product.

Most expensive dud ever

I purchased this very unit new in July 2017 and was very excited to get a top-of-the line KA dishwasher. I will say that it does clean well, and is very quiet, but right from the start I had major issues with mold, fungus and deposits around the rails and contact points between them and the racks. I should note that I run clean cycles more often (minimum every two weeks) than most people, and more thoroughly (usually an empty cycle with citric acid or other cleaning agent, followed by another two full cycles with nothing added but everything set to max hot). But due to the close-fitting nature of the embedded rails and the fact that this machine seems to run lower water pressure than I've ever seen before, the water just does not touch too many internal areas of the machine itself, leading to a hot and humid environment that is very conducive to gross things growing. The result is I end up scrubbing with a toothbrush multiple times per month to clean off this crud. Fast forward exactly two years and now literally ALL of the plastic parts internal to the machine are disintegrating. The top rack collapsed due to the all of cheap plastic pieces growing brittle and falling apart, necessitating ordering more than $120 of more plastic pieces so I can repair it myself. The plastic spray arms, while not broken yet, are already showing the same discoloration and I expect them to start cracking soon as well. On top of all this: the electronic keypad is acting flakey and sometimes blinks off while trying to set a load, or end the wash prematurely with water still in the tub. Other times it has stopped responding and necessitated pulling the plug to reset it before it did anything. The machine turned two years old 5 weeks prior to me writing this review, and has already been more of a mess and required more repair than all of the other dishwashers I've owned in 40+ years put together. I am barely justifying rebuilding the entire upper rack after such a short time, but if the door controls die (which I expect they will before this thing hits three years old) I will rip it out and replace it with an LG. Congrats Whirlpool, you successfully lost a customer for life. And considering I am the engineer in the family that many friends/relatives look to for advice, you can rest assured my influence goes beyond my one purchase. The most expensive dishwasher I've ever bought, and the only one to fall apart within two years. Not a winning combination.

Window is Pointless and stays wet inside

We purchased the entire KitchenAid suite for the new home. The appliances were the highest line we were able to get through Pacific Sales and have a sale program available. The dishwasher is very quiet but the water remaining inside the machine after a wash and dry is more than I am used to with other machines. Service came out and told me it was normal.

Product cleans well and the window is cool. The middle drawer is adjustable making it easier to fit items. The bottom rack has an offset, Im not fond of the offset. Silverware drawer has nubs so you can stand the items sideways, but they always fall over. The dishwasher has a light so you can see in through the window, but you have no control over the light and it only comes on when you first close the door and goes right out. The point of the window in my eyes would be to be able to watch the dishes cleaning. When the light goes out you cant see anything through the window. Over all cleaning above average.

After Hurricane Harvey destroyed my house, I wanted to upgrade my kitchen with high end appliances. I am very satisfied with my Kitchenaid double ovens, but this dishwasher was a very expensive MISTAKE. It takes 3 hours to wash dishes....with very little water pressure...like it seems to barely dribble out (except the bottle washers which are great). My biggest disappointment is the drying. It does NOT dry dishes. Yes, I read the reviews and thought it would be no big deal to hand dry the dishes, BUT the whole inside keeps condensation on the walls and the dishes! Think about that...the dishwasher will mildew and grow mold if you wash dishes and leave town for a weekend! Nope... now I have to open the door the next morning and put a fan on the door in hopes that the dishes and machine will be dry by the time I get home from work. The window is a gimmick, but that is how I know that water barely dribbles on the dishes. And by the way, the dribble is why you can't hear the machine when it's on---there is no water pressure and it's not my plumbing nor household water pressure ! I have made a $1200 mistake and I hope my review can save you some money and heartache. Before I bought this expensive worthless waste of space, I sent an email AND called Kitchenaid to ask some questions but received NO RESPONSE...not even a delayed response. Look elsewhere. Signed, Disappointed and broke in Texas. :-(

not worth the money

recently purchased this dishwasher...yes its lovely to look at but I can't fit all the dishes and pots I used to be able to fit in it with my older KitchenAid washer. First of all, the basket for cutlery is too big...why can't I divide it like the older models allow? That way I could fit so much more items in this washer. I have to now do TWO loads to get everything in there that I used to be able to with one. Very disappointed. And the time it takes to dry is ridiculous....with my older washer I used to be able to open up the washer after some drying and the air would finish drying everything up...but with this washer that doesn't happen at all!!! Very odd. Honestly, I'm really disappointed with it...I only gave it three stars instead of two because of the esthetic looks...

Very quiet operation

Looks nice with the window and operates very quietly. Needs a button to turn on interior light vs only when door is open. Why have a window if you can not see in it. Silverware basket takes up A LOT of room vs previous basket in door model.

Top of the line Kitchenaid

I've had this dishwasher for a few months. Bought from Best Buy at a steep discount after they screwed up my order for a lower priced model. I researched for the last 18 months and was determined to buy a solid dishwasher that would clean tough stuff well and had a heated dry option. Other requirements were 1. Smooth rack operation 2. sports bottle cleaning 3. top rack for spatulas, pizza cutter, utensils, etc 4. stainless steel 5. quiet operation 6. hot water line connectivity 7. decent warranty 8. local purchase/support 9. low maintenance filter and cleaning 10. (option for) water softener. I don't think you can buy a decent, quiet, low maintenance, good cleaning/drying dishwasher for less than a grand...the KDTM804ESS has amazing performance both washing and drying, but you trade cycle time for performance, especially if you enable all the features - 4:40 is the longest cycle I've set before I leave for work or go to bed. There was only one glass cooking pan that took two washes to get clean and it had severe, hard baked-on casserole remnants and I wanted to see if this dishwasher could really get the job done, which it did in two tries. I put it facing to the rear of the dishwasher and used every cleaning option and it worked without manual scrubbing - quite impressive. It's very quiet - the only time I hear it is early in the washing cycle when I'm standing next to it in the kitchen (I have very good hearing) and it only sounds like water dripping with a slight mechanical spraying - far, far quieter than any other we've had. I added an inline water softener since we have very hard water in Iowa since my softener doesn't keep up with all the showers and clothes washing in the house. The softener helps with no more glass "clouding". This removed my requirement to have the softener in the dishwasher as well (which it obviously does not have). The adjustable middle rack is great for either washing taller dishes/items OR for bigger cups, but not both simultaneously. The bottle cleaning jets allow for washing sports bottles if I lower the middle rack to accommodate them. The top rack won't fit anything taller than about 1 inch but it does clean both sides of a pizza cutter. There is a small LED light on the upper right part of the front that gives cycle status - I think it's Blue (washing) Red (drying) and White (done) and the interior light comes on when done. I can also (just barely) see the time remaining on the top of the door where the buttons are if I bend down a little. The stainless steel from does smudge easily but is simple to wipe clean. It's also got a cool Made in the USA emblem on the front, lower right as that is tasteful, yet noticeable. I use Cascade Platinum cleaning pouches, but I put them in one of the larger utensil rack holes instead of the detergent slot and they work very well. The only time I've seen non-clean dishes is when someone puts them next to each other instead of each in a slot or places a frying pan lid with edges next to a plate, preventing water contact. The front door handle is nice for hanging a towel and solid for opening/closing and does not protrude enough to get in the way. I've had no issues with the dishwasher so far

Great dishwasher but with a fatal design flaw

I can tell many of the glowing reviews on this dishwasher were written shortly after receiving it and after only a few uses. Cleaning is very, very good, and it's so quiet you can barely hear it in a silent room. If there is any normal conversation or a TV on you'd never know it was running. When new, you'll love the thing. But here's the fatal flaw that is unlike any dishwasher I've owned the past 30+ years: the shelves use a 3-tier stacked rail system (the "SatinGlide" in the descriptions) that, when closed (the shelves are pushed into the dishwasher for operation) nest so closely that water and/or cleaner cannot penetrate between the rails. Add to this that the rails are in a nice, warm and humid environment and it does not take much to put two and two together in what this produces: after a few months you have inside surfaces of the rails (that can only be seen when the shelves are slid out) that are literally crawling with mold, fungus, and all kind of nasties (see photos). This machine was installed less than four months ago. Before anyone draws conclusions about my maintenance habits I should note I always, always maintain everything I own above any manufacturer's recommendations. Past dishwashers I typically ran a cleaning cycle (empty and with a cleaning product, or citric acid, or vinegar) one or two times per month. On this machine I've upped it to one or two times per week, but it makes no difference because (as I noted above) the water cannot penetrate between the 3-layer nested rails - even with the machine totally empty. If anything, it comes out looking even more gross after running such a clean cycle. At this point I've taken to manually disassembling the dishwasher and putting the gross parts into a tub of hot water and disinfectant and manually cleaning everything with an old toothbrush. This takes half a day and it is absurd that I need to do this on one of the most expensive dishwashers on the market. P.S. I've sent these photos and complaints to WP customer care, but to date they have not offered an acceptable response.

We started a kitchen remodel back in February and purchased our Kitchen Aid appliances in May (DW, Frig, Oven/Micro Combo, Induction Cooktop). Appliances were finally installed in September. I was hesitant regarding color selection, but settled with the Black Stainless and am very happy. Very classy. We replaced our 1994 GE Profile appliances which had held up well, but were not crazy about newer models or colors.

Best Dishwasher I've Ever Owned!!

I can honestly say that this is the very best dishwasher that I have ever owned!! You cannot hear it when it is running. It is literally quiet as a mouse:) The interior holds a massive amount of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, bowls, and there is still room left. It thoroughly cleans each and every load, no matter what wash cycle you choose. I feel that my dishes are clean and sterile when I remove them. This dishwasher uses the hottest water in the rinse cycle and it allows the loads to dry quickly. I love the interior light feature. It visibly tells you that the dishwasher cycle is complete and the dishes are ready to be removed. The many different wash choices that are available is appealing to me. I have had no trouble figuring out fancy cycles or devices. It is a well-made appliance and the interior baskets are of better quality than many others that I have owned. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely purchase this reliable, hard-working dishwasher! I recommend it to everyone. It is pricey but well worth it. You get what you pay for and a lot more.

Love this dishwasher, I don't know why I waited so long to purchase a new one. This dishwasher cleans efficiently. THe light feature is cute but I barely get to admire it because it automatically comes on after the wash is done and automatically shuts off. There are a number of colors that appear on the door throughout the wash cycle however I was not completely sure what each color meant. Blue is for washing, red I assume is for drying and white I understand now that the wash cycle is done. Overall an excellent addition to our kitchen

Washes dishes great, but why no light with window?

We purchased this dishwasher about two weeks ago. It is as wonderful as described and as you probably saw in the showroom. IT's the top of the line and the most expensive model, so you've probably got a lot of expectations. So did we. We sprung for having the lights inside, the window in the door, the pot scrubber, the bottle washers, etc. And it does a bang up job of cleaning dishes. But, a few things that weren't thought of (and that makes how much we paid for it annoying): 1) there's lights and a window, but the lights can't be manually turned on and they don't come on during washing. What's the point of that? There's a window but I can't see inside. Why did you put a window for me to look through? Yes, the light comes on at the end of the wash for about ten minutes. Nice, but since it takes the dishwasher about 3 hours to do a load of dishes, I'm not around to see the light come on. Not the most well thought out approach. Instead, kitchenaid, add a button like on the oven so i can turn the lights on and off at my leisure. let us see how your cool new appliance works. 2) the tines in the lower rack point straight up (that seems normal, right?) but, dinner plates usually need to lean back or else they fall over. So, i've manually bent the tines to keep the dinner plates from falling all over themselves. The bottom rack looks haphazard and i'm afraid i'll break the rack. Anyhow, seems easy enough to just manufacture the rack to accommodate dinner plates. 3) if you open the dishwasher during a cycle to add a dish, you have to press START then shut the door. IT doesn't start back up automatically. (grrr...) Overall, cleans and dries dishes great. I probably would have bought a cheaper model in kitchenaid and not paid for the cool new features because not everything was fully thought out.

Silent superb cleaning of anything in the dishwasher. The window is even fun to look at when the dishwasher is not running. The instructions say it requires a rinse aid for everything to dry well. That's correct--with added rinse aid, everything, including all plastic, is perfectly dry at the end of the cycle.

Top of the Line KitchenAid Dishwasher

We've tried Several Cycles on this dishwasher. Pro Cycle with Pro Heat and the dishes are not dry unless you wait an hour before opening the Door. It does the same thing on all cycles. When you do open it, there is water all over the window. It is extremely quiet. You cannot even hear that it's running. The Window is just a gimmick and has no functional value. The LED Lights are very bright.

Not happy with this dishwasher

The third tray/cutlery tray is too shallow to wash spoons (spoons that put on their side)or anything that is bigger than 1 and 1/4 inch tall, and on the center of tray, you can't even put anything bigger than 3/4 inch because the small wash arm is in the way. Also the tine on the tray is too short, so that can't hold and separate spoons or forks. The cutlery basket also not good to use, as the little holes can't fit my soup spoons' handle. So it is useless too me. It takes me double the time to load the dishes. And it takes forever to finish washing (more than 2 hours without drying function and more than 3 hours with drying), even after almost 1 hour of drying by use both heat and pro dry, the dishes only 85% dry. I suspect there is something wrong with this machine because I did not hear the fan blowing, there was no sound during the drying and was noisy during washing (noisier than the Asko I had last). I am being very patience with this new dishwasher as I understand it might take awhile to get use too. But so far, this is the only dishwasher I have ever hate.

Cleans well, but doesn't close very easily

First, the dishwasher cleans well. That is the main thing in a dishwasher, right? It's quiet and, frankly, looks good. However, it does not shut well. The door seems to be slightly off so that it catches on one side as we try to close it. We'll be contacting Kitchenaid about this, since when you pay this much for a machine you should get a machine that is in completely good condition.
