Ice maker the big downside on this model
CityofMayors
4/30/2018
We purchased our fridge as part of a major kitchen remodel. It looks great and all the appliances are from the same series. Our biggest issue with this model is the ice dispenser.
1. Ice does not break into singles. We get 2-3 piece chunks still stuck together. The auger does not adequately break into singles. Sometimes the chunks are too large for the receiving glass. The chunk blocks the rest of the ice from going into the glass and it comes out so fast the ice goes all over the floor. This doesn't just happen once... it happens every day.
2. Ice tends to come out of the maker suddenly. Even without a 2-3 piece chunk blocking the receiving glass, all the ice comes out of the maker suddenly and it goes all over the floor. This doesn't just happen once... it happens every day.
3. This model is not what I consider "counter-depth" it is a bit deeper and sticks out about 2" beyond counter-depth.
We would look at other Kitchenaid fridges because we have not experienced any major failures with any of our other appliances. Unless we see a major design improvement with the ice maker, we will not purchase another Kitchenaid refrigerator. We could overlook a once-in-a-while problem but the ice maker dispenser issue is an every day occurrence that we no longer wish to put up with.

Nothing fancy about this, just should have lasted longer before having a major failure. Computer board failed and had to be replaced after 6 years. Cost over $600. Given that I expected to last longer than this, I should have bought something more dependable at first. Won't buy KitchenAide (Whirpool) again.

Have had this for 6+ years now and it works great. Two minor issues, sometime the automatic ice maker gets jammed with too much ice, but nothing a little shake of the ice bin can't fix. The other is once in a blue moon the paddle (for lack of a better term) gets stuck while dispensing water.

Nice looking, too little room
8/14/2017
This fridge looks great and will be for a small family. Because it is counter depth it is quite shallow and will not hold pans or containers that will fit in traditional units. It does look nice and keep things cold, but the shallowness of the refrigerator and the freezer offset it for us. We have also had trouble with the ice dispenser Shen filling cups. It has a tendency to continue dispensing ice after you release the lever and ice falls on the floor. We ALWAYS have a wet and messy floor from that. The ice maker is also very small and never provides enough for the family when we are all together. And to mke it worse, the freezer is not large enough to store the ice bag from the store. It's also much louder than our previous unit and the door control notifications are not user friendly. It's difficult to learn how to acknowledge the alerts and turn them off when dealt with. Our replace filter light was on for days after we replace the filter before we could figure it out.

Horrible Refrigerator and way too expensive
2/27/2017
This is a bad fridge, design and all. The ice maker holds enough ice for about 2 drinks and then you must wait for more to make. The lunch meat drawer is the entire width of the frig so both doors must be wide ope to use and therefore when one door closed it snapped the lid off. The frig is now leaking from the ice maker. DO NOT BUY. Also, the ice comes out badly so we gave up using the ice dispenser. With the ice maker placed in refrigerator section it really doesn't leave a lot of space for food.

They don't make 'em like they used to
7/17/2016
We did some research and purchased this model 3 years ago. It has served its purpose, but here are my complaints about it: -The handy dandy door alarm will beep if the doors are left open for more than 30-45 seconds (?). That's great unless you're cleaning the thing out, rearranging, or loading it up. You're forced to stop, push in all the drawers, close the doors to reset the timer, then you can proceed. You have to repeat this process every 30-45 seconds until you're done. Annoying. -The icemaker is tiny. I have a family of four. We can't all have ice at the same time. Seriously. You can forget it if we have friends or family over. I have to start pre-planning a few days in advance by harvesting ice and storing in the freezer or just by buying a bag. -The icemaker is also finicky. You either wait forever for ice to fall, or you're bombarded with a whole bucket of ice falling through the chute and ultimately on the floor. -The size of this fridge is pretty small compared to others on the market. I am constantly reorganizing or moving things to my outside fridge. -Anything placed on the top shelf (next to the icemaker) WILL FREEZE. I learned my lesson. While putting water bottles in that area is great, a carton of eggs is not. -The freezer is small. Again, we utilize an outside fridge/freezer because this unit is so small. -Within the last month, we noticed water on the floor in front of the fridge. I assumed maybe it was a drip pan in need of emptying? We found out last night that it has something to do with the freezer. The gasket is not sealing properly even though I've cleared all possible obstructions. Our food has partially thawed and now we're left with the chore of emptying out the entire freezer because it's now unsafe. We are putting a service call in after only 3 years of use. We're pretty much fed up with the size of it that we're going to replace it all together. If you have a family of four or more, don't get this model.

We bought this as a display closeout and because it was a KitchenAid. The refrigerator is beautiful and very efficient. It looks great in the kitchen and takes much less floor space, which is a big plus in a small kitchen. The freezer compartment is roomy and well designed. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Interior function not as good as outside style
11/4/2015
I like the style of the refrigerator. My wife agrees on the outside presence, but does not like the interior design. She notes that she must open both doors to have unobstructed access to the drawers. Your newer design that has the drawer below the French doors may give her a better impression.

Arrived broken & 2 weeks later still waiting for repair
8/6/2015
We bought this brand new and when it arrived it never started to cool down. Just blew warm air. Called KitchenAid after waiting for 24 hours. We then had to wait a week for a KitchenAid repairman to come and check it out. He thinks the tubing has some kind of leak... but he can't do a full test so he'll have to come back the next week. Totally unacceptable. We thought this fridge was a great deal, but factoring in the cost of spoiled groceries and lost work wages waiting for the repairman, we should probably just have gone with a higher end brand. And by the way, KitchenAid, we are in the middle of a full kitchen remodel and will not be buying anymore of your appliances.

I bought this to replace a 13 year old Kitchenaid Superba side by side that was dying a slow death. Looks great, a little smaller than I am used to. I haven't quite worked out the shelf configuration that works best for my family. At times the ice maker seems to lag. Agressively spits ice out at you, learning curve as to how much ice is coming and when to release the button. overall we are satisfied.

Good for counterdepth requirement
Winston2
5/3/2015
Due to a move, we had to purchase a refrigerator for the new property. All of the other existing kitchen appliances were Kitchenaid so knowing the brand for its quality, I purchased this product. Counterdepth was a requirement so options were limited. Overall we are very pleased, the freezer has ample space and the refrigerator has plenty of space options. The only drawback is the door ice and water dispenser. You can't fit more than a small glass and the ice maker shoots ice all over. It does not hold much ice so after a few glasses it runs out. We've had to resort to keeping a bag of ice on hand.

Very happy with the refrigerator overall. My only negative comment is that the ice dispenser is poorly designed. It is difficult to get a container close enough to "catch" the ice and invariably a piece or two lands on the floor.

Full featured counter depth refrig
Matt80238
3/30/2015
We had this refrig installed with a new home purchase and we are very pleased thus far. The counter depth makes for a noticeably smaller interior, but it is very well laid out. Working great so far, making ice, etc. The ice maker does not hold much ice, but we are a two-person household so it should not be a problem. We are using the water and ice through the door a lot - great convenience. Please note: it does not offer crushed ice. Not a problem for us, but some people might miss that feature. We are loving the french-door configuration - it's nice that we can readily see all the contents at eye level. And the freezer drawer is nice because you are seeing everything from above and nothing is hidden behind as in a side-by-side refrig. All in all, we are very pleased so far! It would be tough to find a better counter-depth French door refrig for the money.

We purchased the counter-depth, so it isn't as deep as the refrigerator we replaced, but it's wider which makes up some of the difference. There are things I love and things I'm not so crazy about. The things I love - I love having a bottom freezer. I love the overall appearance of the fridge. On the inside, I love having three drawers, two small ones and one large with a divider. The shelves are adjustable to accommodate taller items, but I do miss those extra few inches in the depth. My biggest complaint is the ice maker. It is very small (which I'm sure is because we have the bottom freezer) and doesn't make enough ice for us, so I keep a bag of ice on hand in my other freezer. When using the ice dispenser, the ice comes out pretty fast and continues even after you have stopped dispensing. Can't tell you how many times the husband has had to pick up four or five ice cubes off the floor, because it won't stop! It is also rather loud when making ice. Overall, however, I am quite happy with the purchase.

It's okay
Coby1856
3/26/2015
As far as the actual refrigerator space and function go, I don't have a problem with this model. I'm not picky about my fridges, so it works just fine and looks great. BUT, while I was unpacking everything inside and setting up the door shelving I noticed that the two shelf buckets for the left door by the ice dispenser are identical. Only problem is, the top shelf is supposed to be shaped differently to fit that space. Even the instruction manual showed a different shaped bucket for the top slots. So I've got a missing shelf and a useless little bucket. Second, I debated over doing ice and water in the door and I finally decided I wanted the convenience of not having to open the door to get ice or water. So the ice and water dispensers seem to work great. My BIGGEST pet peeve of this fridge is that the little catch tray at the bottom is not self draining, and the excess ice/water literally needs to be soaked up with a few paper towels at least three times a day. So here I am with a nice new shiny stainless steel refrigerator, jamming paper towels into the shallow tray at the dispenser to prevent it from over flowing down the front of the fridge onto my hardwood floors!? Three or four times a day!? Come on!!! So I took a stroll through Home Depot and noticed that most of the models they have on display are similar, and I would imagine their owners are dealing with the same problem. My buddy does have a newer fridge that does self drain the ice tray and I would absolutely search high and low for a brand/model of fridge that does this. This should be more common because it's incredibly annoying.

Good design and flexible shelving
Kerry OLeary
3/22/2015
So far it has been great with nice features and flexible shelving. The only problem we had was the drain was not draining and the bottom of the freezer kept filling with water and freezing. Once we called a repairman he fixed it with a new drain and told us it was a common problem. I hope Kitchenaid would send out a recall to owners. It took us a while to fill out registration so we may not have been on the list. Our refrigerator door gets left open or ajar a lot and sometimes the alarm goes off and sometimes it does not seem to recognize it.

I don't know how it does it, but food just seems to stay fresher longer (think strawberries, salad). I assume it's the humidity control in the crisper drawers, but it might just be magic. Love the counter-depth for all the extra space it makes in the kitchen, and the four-bin bottom freezer holds everything we ask of it.

We've had our new Counter depth French door refrigerator w/through the door ice and water for about a week. We are delighted with it in virtually all respects... although it has taken about a week to learn the idiosyncrasies of the ice dispenser. At first it was hard to avoid ice cubes and chips everywhere... after a bit we learned that to press the container up high and a bit to the right solved the issues. All good!

Needed a refrigirator in the 20 cuft range, but narrow enough to be as close as possible the width of the lower kitchen cabinets -- hence the "countertop" name. The other requrement, if one has to instal it one side to the wall, that the doors, when open pivot in such a way, not to exceed the width of the fridge. Both requirements have been satisfied.

Just installed this refrigerator and overall I am happy with the purchase. I realize that because it is counter-depth we have less interior room but I was not expecting it to be so limited on height of shelves. I am still rearranging everything to optimize our space. The counter-depth may still be worth it considering the limited space in our kitchen. Ice maker is very noisy....
