Reliable, but don't forget maintenance!
Reassured

I first found this site last week when my 7 year/old refrigerator just quit! First the noises, then the dispenser quit working and then complete silence. I read the warranty information and called the number to get an authorized mechanic dispatched. It was a Saturday, so the earliest appointment would be Tuesday afternoon.
While waiting for the repair appointment, I emptied and cleaned the whole thing inside and out. I even vacuumed under the unit assuming that's where the coils reside, something I never did before. Would you believe that 72 hours later the beast woke up on its own? Seriously! First the noises, then the false starts and then voila! It was working just fine two hours before repairman was due to arrive, which I was able to cancel. It now works (and looks) like new again. Hilariously stressful lesson learned!

Just like Angelacap39's review! It stopped working last night. Home warranty company tech came out to fix it. Both computer boards are in great shape. He said it's likely internal wiring is fried. The only thing works on it now is the interior light. Home warranty won't cover due to it be an internal problem! I have a very expensive door stop! I bought it back in 2015! Come to find out today, it was manufactured in 2012. It doesn't matter...a one-year warranty is completely useless!
This thing has been problematic. First, I had to replace the defrost drain grommet due to ice collecting in the bottom. KitchenAid knows about the problem; they redesigned the drain and grommet for the replacement! Then, my icemaker went out this past spring. And now this! I will never buy anything KitchenAid again.
PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!

I bought it a little over 5 years ago and it stopped working last week. The main circuit board needs to be replaced and the overload relay at least a 500 dollar repair. This should not happen on a frig after 5 years. No warranty and kitchen aid doesn't even have the main part available to fix it. Very disappointed in kitchen aid. Will not be buying anymore of their products

Very pleased with the refrigerator itself but the in-door ice leaves much to be desired. It sprays ice all over the place, even if you put your glass all the way to the top. Bad engineering - doesn't anyone test these during the design stage?? But the refrig does a great job with keeping produce fresh.

I bought this refrigerator just over 5 years ago and the ice/water dispenser quit working. Due to the electronic components, the repair was estimated to be $450!!

Overall, we are pleased with our selection of the Kitchen Aid refrigerator. The ice maker does take up a lot of real estate inside and I frequently curse it for spitting those last 2 or 3 cubes out when you think it's safe to pull your cup away. I also wish there was just a bit more space in the height. Just an inch more and I'd be able to store taller bottles on the top shelf without taking away needed space from the shelves below. The pull out drawer is convenient. However we have already had one plastic arm of the lid to the drawer break and had to glue it back on.
