refrigerator is good but icemaker is awful

The temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer are exemplary and the operating costs are very nominal; however, we have experienced numerous issues with the ice maker for the last 6 years. At one point it even started spitting out ice on the floor in the middle of the night. Repair costs for the icemaker are astronomical. It is certainly enough to turn me off of Whirlpool/KitchenAid items.

Started strong but faded badly

I got this refrigerator when I moved into my brand new home in Oct 2008. It worked great initially and the actual refrigeration unit still works pretty well but the entire ice making system has been an issue the entire time. The ice maker itself has been replaced 2 times, the ice sensors 2 times and the door panel components have had issues the last 2 years spitting ice out at random times, sometimes in the middle of the night.
