Poor Quality and deplorable replacement parts

We bought this about 6 years ago, as a set to replace some very old equipment. This unit failed in the first 6 months, the main seal and bearings went out. Service replaced several large internal parts free of charge, but we were without a washer for a few days.At about 6 years the same problem occurred again, main seal and bearing failure. Replacement 'tub' halves alone run $700 from Maytag. That's more than we paid for the unit. Aftermarket or 3rd party shops might have saved us a few $$$.I might also comment, the 'first' factory authorized repair left some presents. After tear down to replace the parts, we found a 12" piece of wire cut at both ends, just laying in the chassis. The ground terminal on the motor had it's wire cut, and where it looped into the rear bearing, it was cut. There was also a missing screw in the front control panel under the top cover. Thanks factory authorized service. Had I seen those two things 5.5 years ago, I'd have demanded a new washer.We were able to order bearing and seal kits for $50 or less from several repair places. Maytag's own part number for those items were not correct, so seals didn't fit from two different suppliers. Either Maytag changed the design in my first replacement or they don't share with suppliers so they can sell their 'kit' for $700. I was able to measure the seal and buy a new one for $10. It's shameful to sell two parts for more than the cost of the whole unit. Had I not been able to fix it for $25 in parts plus labor, There'd be a competitors washer in my house.Gone are the days of the lonely Maytag repairman, he's on the phone with every seal supplier he can find to figure out what the heck the Engineers did.

Loud bearing noise after 1 year

Worked fine for a while (10-12 months) then a loud bearing noise developed during the spin cycle that drowns out everything in the house. Research on-line indicates that the best, most cost effective solution is to buy another brand. I agree.
